Rejoice and be glad

Who: We 4 Kings

Location: Field in our neighborhood

Props: Ryan's grandparents' awesome red velvet chair and silly glasses

Clothes: Katy - Target; Emersyn - Carter's (that's a direct link to the same dress) Chic Pretties; Radley - Suit from JCPenney (similar); Ryan - no clue.

Comments:  Ryan really wanted a formal family picture, but I wasn't convinced. We went with it and it's one of my favorite pictures we have ever taken. He was clearly right (just this once) and the picture sits framed in our house still! I did want to offset the formal with something more "us". A few weeks prior to the shoot, we received the not fun news of Ryan's mom's cancer diagnosis so adding the silly glasses and focusing on rejoicing through life's ups and downs became our way of coping.

Favorite Thing: I LOVE the tall, golden grass agains our blacks, grays and reds. The colors worked so much better than I expected. I also clearly adore the pictures of us in glasses. I have those framed and hanging in our family room and smile every time I see them. Radley and Emmy crack me up!

Katy's Thoughts: I was having a pretty good hair day. ;)

Cindy's Thoughts: Ryan was right - the dressy clothes are so darn cute in this picture.  I think the contrast of the dressy clothes and the tall grass draw your eye to the subjects and I love them! :)  Also, I don't care what kind of Grinch you are...you can't help but smile at a baby in silly glasses!

How can you recreate this card? Don't be afraid to "take a risk" or try the unexpected. We still receive compliments on this card - people just loved the glasses. :) Drive around town and scout out the perfect field for an outdoor shoot which is actually an amazing setting for formal pictures.

  3. And, we have to admit, we are jealous that we didn't think of a "mustache" theme on our own. A family of all boys? You MUST do a mustache card! Check out our entire board here!
